How much do you really enjoy learning English on a scale of 1 to 10? If the score is anything less than 8 you need is a new learning experience that inspires you, challenges and intrigues you, something that you can perform! Why not learn from the greatest writer and inventor of English, William Shakespeare himself! The process of studying, practicing and performing Shakespeare develops all your essential English skills: reading and discussing the texts, writing down ideas, listening to feedback, and finally performing the language itself, as you would do in any English presentation or meeting! In our weekly 2-hour sessions you’ll get to read and discuss Shakespeare’s plays, develop a deep understanding of the plot and characters, and eventually have a go at performing in reduced versions of his plays! Language learning should be more than just analysing grammar and remembering new vocabulary. English is best learned when there is something interesting attracting you towards it in the first place. Within Shakespeare’s work you find, in short, the entire human drama of life that fascinates as much now as it did over 400 years ago!
Hello, my name is David Christopher Gray and I’m delighted to be able to present a new approach to learning English through the work of William Shakespeare. After graduating from the University of Manchester in Drama and Film studies, I have spent the last 10 years teaching English at well-established institutions around London and Italy.
I have reached the conclusion that there is a desperate need among intermediate and advanced learners of English for a style of learning that has culture and performance at its heart; not just grammar and vocabulary. There are only so many times you can study tenses and phrasal verbs before you begin to lose the motivation to continue to learn English and the other priorities of your life intervene to prevent you from making steady progress. What you need is something that inspires you, something that challenges and intrigues you, something you can perform! The process of studying, practicing and performing Shakespeare develops all your essential English skills: reading and discussing the texts, writing down ideas, listening to feedback, and finally performing the language itself, as you do in any English presentation or meeting!
